Geschichte:
For centuries following the ice age the Kwakwala First Nations Tribe resided in this middle region of Vancouver Island (as it is known today). The area was abundant in food resources, so it is no surprise that the tribe named the area Komuckway, meaning the Place of Plenty.
The totem poles and historical marine development of early settlers can be located at the Comox Museum, Historic Filber Lodge and a visit to the "Tla wa sints guy a las" Totem Pole.
The name was later adapted by white settlers during the early 1800’s. Finally it became settled with a pier, marine and supply support to be known as Comox.
