British Columbia Travel Guide
The unofficial BC Travel & Tourism Guide
Unique geography plus year round temperate climate creates an exceptional location for hiking, horseback riding, boating, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, diving and camping. And only 20-minutes away is an alpine playground that receives some of the deepest snow in North America.

In the Comox Valley it really is possible to enjoy the best of all seasons, sometimes in the same day – you can be knee-deep in powder and then half an hour later be dusting the snow off your boots at a lush green golf course or paddling a kayak through pristine blue waters.

A new international airport, with direct service to Calgary and Vancouver, and more destinations coming, makes the Comox Valley not just a holiday in itself but a gateway to the rest of Vancouver Island, too.

Geschichte:
For centuries following the ice age the Kwakwala First Nations Tribe resided in this middle region of Vancouver Island (as it is known today). The area was abundant in food resources, so it is no surprise that the tribe named the area Komuckway, meaning the Place of Plenty.
The totem poles and historical marine development of early settlers can be located at the Comox Museum, Historic Filber Lodge and a visit to the "Tla wa sints guy a las" Totem Pole.
The name was later adapted by white settlers during the early 1800’s. Finally it became settled with a pier, marine and supply support to be known as Comox.
