The Shuswap (English) /Secwepemc (Native) Nations covers an area of 145,040 square kilometres in the British Columbia Interior, which includes where Chase stands today. These tribes lived in the area thousands of years prior to the first white settlers, who arrived during the gold rush.
Named after the first non-native settler and farmer in the Shuswap Prairie, Whitfield Chase, it was originally a logging town.
