About us....

The Chase & District Museum is impossible to miss. Located on Shuswap Ave. in Chase, B.C., the beautiful old Roman-Catholic Church glows amidst carefully tended gardens. Inside, the Museum features an exhibit of Secwepemc (Shuswap) artefacts, as well as displays based on a general store, a doctor’s office, a pioneer cabin, a bank, and a bar. The Fred Beatty Archives are available for public use upon appointment, and a newly-restored log cabin is finally open. We welcome visitors every day from 10:00am to 4;00pm. Come on in!

Restoration....

This summer was especially exciting for the Chase & District Museum & Archives as we worked on a project that began last year when we moved a pioneer cabin from nearby Turtle Valley to the space behind the museum. In order to have the building ready by its planned opening date of August 4th, volunteers and employees alike worked constantly. The result: a fascinating and informative display that feels like home.

Stories.....

The sight of a pioneer homestead, slumping sideways with time, is nothing new. Seldom though, do we stop to consider the inhabitants or their lives. Come along with the Chase & District Museum & Archives as we explore the people and events that have shaped our quaint town.

Whitfield Chase was the first non-first nations settler in the area; the town was named for him in 1908, decades after he began ranching. At 45, like many other settlers, he took a first-nations woman as his wife. Per-soons Tolvinek was 16 when she moved from her family’s “kekuli” into Whitfield’s log cabin and was renamed Elizabeth. Her story is just one of the many to be found at the Chase & District Museum & Archives.
