Only forty five minutes from Victoria, Ladysmith can not be missed as travelers by vehicle have to journey below the town set back on the hillside. The town centre is known for the character of its historical buildings and monuments dotting the street outside the small shops. Every year the festivals celebrated here are destinations for tourists and residents from all across British Columbia.

Geschichte:
Most of the west coast shores of British Columbia's mainland and islands were populated for over 5,000 years by the First Nation tribes of the Coastal Salish natives. Vancouver Island and its small cities, such as Ladysmith, were regular hunting grounds and fishing spots for the natives through out the year.

Named after a small town in Natal-South Africa in 1900, Ladysmith was originally a coal mine port built along the shores of Oyster Harbour in 1899 by James Dunsmuir.
