DESCRIPTION:Community: Cowichan Bay\nJoin us on Thursday February 16th\, at 7:00 PM for an hour long film with The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre’s Ways operator and boat repair technician\, Lance Underwood. \n\nLance is also a commercial fisherman who has fished all over the Gulf of Alaska\, Bristol Bay\, and the Bering Sea. He will be offering his unique perspective on the film\, and commercial fishing in general.\n\nThere will be coffee\, tea\, and cookies. We will also be accepting donations at the door!\nPlease RSVP if you plan to attend by calling 250 746 4955\n\nAt the headwaters of the Kvichak and Nushagak rivers in Bristol Bay\, Alaska — the two largest remaining sockeye salmon runs on the planet — mining companies have proposed to extract what may be the richest deposit of gold and copper in the world. \nThis film documents the growing unrest among native\, commercial\, and sport fishermen who oppose the proposed Pebble Mine\, as well as giving mine officials a chance to argue their case. Red Gold is a portrait of a unique way of life that would not exist if the salmon didn’t return with Bristol Bay’s tide.\nContact Info:\nCowichan Bay Maritime Centre\nPhone 250 746 4955\n
