Among several small towns and villages situated along the Gold Rush Trail in the Thompson Okanagan is an association- the "Gold Country", which celebrates its heritage and the early years during the famous Gold Rush. In Ashcroft, visitors can find out about the history through the museum and church tours. During the later part of the year, visitors and locals alike take in the Fall Festivals with locally grown produce, handcrafted items, home cooked foods, and all the trimmings. There are time honoured traditions that play out during the annual events, such as a cattle calling contest and local hockey tournaments.

The natural landscape and unique western charm of the downtown strip have generated the attention of the film industry and showcased in recent films such as; Bird on a Wire, Flower and Garnet, the X Files, and Traffic (a TV mini-series).

The surrounding lakes and rivers are also a huge draw for fishing fans! There are plenty of hot spots and great advice on where to make the best catch.

Ashcroft is situated 30 km from the west end of Kamloops Lake, 10km south of Cache Creek on Highway 97C and an hour's drive from the city of Kamloops.

Geschichte:
Ashcroft, a small town along the Thompson River, prospered during the Gold Rush when it was the most northernly town reached by the railway. The village was denoted as Mile "0" of the trail (several towns in BC are named after their mile). However, other railway developments within the province created the downfall of the boom. Chinese immigrants helped rebuild the tomatoes / agriculture business in the area and start up a fallen cannery. Ashcroft had seen some of its busiest days. Today, the community remains supported by agriculture, mining, forestry, ranch farming, and tourism.
